Selena Gomez: I Make Mistakes All the Time

Selena Gomez never planned on being a role model. But after finding fame at an early age, the 18-year-old actress and singer has learned to embrace it.

"I never really said I want to be a role model. But then when it happened I was so down for it," Gomez says on the upcoming E! Entertainment Special: Selena Gomez, which will premiere June 29. "I'm human, I'm not perfect. I make mistakes all the time, but I guess my job is to keep those mistakes to myself, which I'm already fine doing and just try to be the best I can be for those kids."
The pop star recently hit a rough patch when she had to miss an appearance after being hospitalized due to malnourishment and exhaustion, but she returned to the stage days later to the delight of her fans.

While the Texas-born beauty has enjoyed much success at a young age, she didn't have an easy childhood and she struggled with her parents' divorce.

"I wanted a family so bad. I wanted to have my dad and my mom together. So it was really, it was really hard," she says.

While Gomez, whose high-profile romance with Justin Bieber has made headlines, seems comfortable in the limelight, she says it's easy to caught up in the fame.

"This is a very superficial job," Gomez says. "I sit in a chair for two hours and get hair and makeup done and talk about [myself] in interviews. That's a very vain thing to do. And I do get caught up in it sometimes."

Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift Go To College For A Day And Pretend To Be Students!

Selena Gomez - 2011 People's Choice Awards - Press Room

Can you imagine seeing Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift decked out in college gear trying to blend in with the other students? Selena says it didn’t work out too well!

Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are determined to act like normal young adults, but sometimes that’s just not possible, given they’re two of the most recognizable girls in the world right now. In her upcoming E! Entertainment Special, Selena dishes about how Taylor took her to her brother’s college and they tried to become students for a day — and as you can imagine, their plan backfired.
“So we fly to Notre Dame and decide we’re gonna fit in,” Selena, 18, says.

“We went and we got all this Notre Dame gear so we’re like wearing the Notre Dame jacket and the Notre Dame visor and we learned that’s not how you fit in at college evidently. As we were walking around masses of people ended up following us. And yes they had to call security but it’s all we have that’s close to a normal college experience.”

How funny would that be, seeing Taylor, 21, and Selena prancing around campus dressed to the nines in college gear? Of course they’d get recognized!

For more inside stories about Selena’s life, tune into her E! Entertainment Special, which airs June 29 at 10 p.m.

Selena Gomez Blames Junk Food for Health Problems

Selena Gomez Blames Junk Food for Health Problems | Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez says she needs to take a break from that Kit Kat bar.

Gomez, 18, blames an overload of junk food for her
hospitalization for what she called a bad case of being "malnourished".

“I do eat," she said on Kidd Kraddick's
radio show in Texas on Thursday. "The problem is I don’t eat right. I love everything that’s possibly not good for me."
But referring to her "Supermom," Gomez says she's getting help doing what's better for her body.

"She’s definitely shoving vitamins down my mouth and following me around," she says of her mommy. "But at the same time, I was a stubborn kid, so I got to eat whatever I wanted. I have to have creamed spinach or cheese on my broccoli. I have to have something that makes it not healthy."
Gomez's favorite guilty pleasures? "I love M&Ms, Kit Kats, Snickers and Goobers at the movies," she admits.

Luckily, thanks to her mom's influence, Gomez is on the path to recovery.

"I'm good now, thank you," she says. "I'm so much better."

Selena Gomez Teen Vogue Beautiful

Selena Gomez blasts some tunes from her stereo in this outtake from the June/July 2011 issue of Teen Vogue.

The 18-year-old actress chatted with the mag about how the paparazzi can be frustating, the love of her fans, and broken hearts.
Don’t Mess With Her Fans: “A lot of times, the paparazzi will try to use them. They’ll say, ‘Your fans want this.’ And it’s frustrating because my fans are amazing: They love me, they support me. And I do everything for them. But the press? They don’t care about me. They just want something on me that they can use. They just want to get that shot.”

A Love Story in the Making: “When your heart is broken, you want to hate everything. You want to say, ‘I don’t believe in love; this is ridiculous. It’s not supposed to hurt this much.’ But at this moment in my life, I’m at a point where I want to be in love, to give my all and fall head over heels. I’m eighteen. I’m not going to marry anybody I’m with, and I know that. The next heartbreak I have, I’m sure I’ll be like, ‘How can I live without this person?’ But I’m still trying to dive in and enjoy it.”

Graduating from Disney Academy: “It’s like starting over. I was trying to explain it to one of my friends, and he said, ‘You’ll be fine. People believe in you.’ But when they’re putting together a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, I don’t think they’re going to go, ‘Selena Gomez would be great for this!’ I’m not an option. It’s humbling, having to go from this Disney high back down to having to fight for roles.”
